2020 has been a complete drag for most people. We have experienced a lot of difficulty and a lot of losses that we did not see coming. Most were blindsided and have had to adjust their life dramatically.
With all negative that we have experienced in our own personal lives, or have witnessed in the lives of those closest to us, we must still maintain an even keel and seek progression.
When changes come about that are so drastic, this usually brings about an immense amount of opportunity along with it.
The only way that we can see these opportunities is to put ourselves in a growth mindset and in a position to recognize these opportunities and take advantage of them.
Going into the new year we should already be planning our game. Planning what it is that we want to accomplish for ourselves come this new year. No matter how hard you have been hit by this whole Covid situation, you still have today and you will have tomorrow — God willing 🙏
This means that if you don’t turn things around for yourself, nobody is coming to save you. You must help yourself and put yourself in a position to win.
A great way to accomplish this is to pick up some hobbies for yourself.
Here are 5 hobbies everyone should have in place come this new year of 2021
1. One to Make you Money
Money makes this world go round. We all know this and we all have a need for more money. I have found through my own tracking of time, that I have a lot of time on my hands and it is important that I track how I decide to use it.
Most people do not slow down enough to see where their time is going. Time is just like money if you don’t keep track of it — it disappears.
Look to find hobbies that you can take on that not only satisfy your own personal interests and needs, but also can be turned into an extra source of income for yourself.
I read a story of a young lady who’s hobby was tie dye shirts. She enjoyed going to her backyard and using her equipment to create new creative designs for tie dye shirts. She slowly moved to practicing the same thing but with pants, and sweatshirts.
Long story short, she was able to turn her passion and what was just a simple hobby for her to pass time, into a side business that generated a-lot more money than she would have ever dreamed of.
2. One To Increase Your Creativity
Each of us should be tapping into our creative genius. I believe we all have it, it’s just not too many people search for it and try to build upon it.
Reading this, you can ask yourself what sparks my creativity?
What is it that I love to do that really brings out the best of my creative nature?
Maybe it is painting, maybe it is wood working, maybe it is working with animals. Find a hobby that will spark your creativity and help you to leverage that creativity for your own personal advantage.
3. One To Build Knowledge
Hobbies are great habit filled activities that you can set in place for yourself. Everyone should have a hobby that helps them to build new knowledge and new skills.
For me, it is books. I love to read new books and it is a great past time that I have instilled within my day-to-day routine since I was a kid. Reading not only helps me to pick up new knowledge and just learn new skills, but it also helps me to relax. It’s therapeutic for me.
For you, it may or may not be reading. Maybe it is watching documentaries, or taking online courses or just continuing your overall academic education. Maybe, school itself is or can be a hobby.
Regardless of what your interests are for hobbies, everyone should have a hobby that is practiced within their daily routine that helps them to increase their knowledge. Don’t let another day go by without picking up a hobby that increases your knowledge and skills.
4. One to Keep you In Shape
Robin Sharma – a world wide leadership expert says — “the best of days are started off with a an early morning exercise session.”
There are way too many people out there that have lost touch with their bodies. You may not think this is even possible, but it is. I believe if you are going to improve who you are and create lasting change, it begins with your mind/body connection.
Pick up a hobby that is going to keep you in great shape. If you are currently not in great shape, pick a hobby that can get you there with consistency over time.
Great examples of hobbies that can help you burn calories and keep you in great shape are:
- Cycling
- Walking
- Jogging
- Running
- Swimming
- Weight Lifting
- Yoga
- Dancing
- Sports
- Cleaning and Picking up your Home Often
- Yard work
- Dog Walking
These are just a few of the many options that are available out there. You just need to be creative and find whatever it is that you can spend your time doing, but at the same time it is an enjoyment at the end of the day for you.
Putting a hobby in place that can keep you in shape is probably one of the most critical of them all. If you can improve your body, you can improve your mind along with it. This will bring you tremendous benefits come this new year.
5. One to Evolve Your Mindset
We often go into hobbies never really giving our mindset much thought. Personally, I like to go pick up new habits and hobbies that are going to help me evolve into a better version of myself.
The game for me is progression. I am constantly looking for new opportunities that can help me stretch as a human being. But, most importantly, I look for activities that I know I can sustain over time.
Picking up a hobby like wood working can really help you evolve your mindset. I have learned that wood working helps me to practice my patience levels to a great extreme. I can’t count how many times, I have been working on a project and I need to start over due to a mistake, or the fact that building something takes time.
When you are building something with your hands and your mind, you begin to adopt a more patient mindset all together. If I continue to stay consistent with this hobby of mine, I am confident that my patience will grow and expand over time and repetition.
Final Thoughts
Come this new year, there will be many people who are going to try to turn things around for themselves. My hopes for anyone who reads this is to understand that real change happens when we use our time wisely.
Focus more on where your time is going, and see what type of hobbies and habits you can pick up that can help you improve your return on investment.
