Spare time is all around us, and it can quickly fly by you if not managed properly.
The way we spend our time is important in life, and that principle should hold heavy weight on the priority list, if it doesn’t already.
Time drives so many different variables in life, those variables, then lead to results. The results provided, are a direct reflection of where you stand today.
Right now, wherever you are in your own personal life, is due to an accumulation of time and thousands of decisions along the way.
What I have discovered to be of great value, is that the way you choose to pass your spare time, ends up molding you as a person.
We humans become a direct reflection of how our time is spent.
Who we spend our time with, what we choose to do with our time, where we choose to spend our time, all hold significant importance in life.
Here Are 7 Great Ways To Take Advantage Of Your Spare Time:
1. Think Of Different Novel Ideas
Often times, you can find yourself with a lot more spare time on your hands than you think. It is in those scenarios, where you need to take inventory, and ask yourself, “What can I do with my spare time?”
The next time you find yourself with ample free-time, and you don’t know exactly how you should be spending it, grab a piece of paper and write down some ideas that you believe you could commit to.
These ideas can range from: picking up a part time job, volunteering at your local church or center, picking up a new hobby or sport, creating a new product, starting podcast, getting started on that book you’ve always wanted to write, or starting a new business venture.
Writing these ideas down can help you shift your focus from dreams to reality, and this process helps you realize that the time is there for you to accomplish whatever you desire.
2. Build A Side Hustle
This is one that if I could go back 10 years into the past and communicate what I know today, with my younger self, this is what I would say — “build yourself a side hustle.”
Not everyone considers themselves much of an entrepreneur, but I believe, even if you don’t see yourself as an entrepreneur, do yourself the favor and start yourself a side hustle.
Not only do I believe that it is a great way to utilize spare time, but it can also become a safety net of income for yourself and your family.
It is just where the future is headed, that should ignite you to do it.
I am sure at some point you have heard the saying,—“The younger you are, and the earlier you start, the better.”
Probably, from parents or loved ones, that have more experience on this planet.
Truth of the matter is, this cliche is very true.
Time is going to pass you by, regardless of what you do or don’t do.
Let that sink in…
It is wise to find something that you love, something that you enjoy learning more about, and dedicate all of your time into turning that idea into a source of income.
3. Learn A New Skill
Times are changing, you may or may not realize it because we are often moving so quickly throughout life.
We either have our thoughts consumed by our relationships, school, work, or even problems that we may have.
When we get caught up in such things, we miss to see the opportunities that are taking place around us.
Learn to use your spare time towards educating yourself on new trends, techniques, and skills.
Learning a new skill, is a great way to not only learn more about yourself and how you handle processes, but also it can help you to grow in your chosen career path.
4. Exercise
A study done by the World Health Organization showed that only 1 in 4 people exercise today.
This translates to 1.4 billion people today, who are physically inactive.
Having no physical exercise or activity in your life, can put you at greater risk of heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. Those are just to name a few of the grand consequences that can stem from a lack of physical activity.
Taking inventory of your spare time, is a great way to look for identifiable gaps that are loaded with complete unassigned spare time.
In looking at your spare time with focus, you can easily spot the opportunities for you to exercise.
Start by implementing a simple 30 minute walk each day.
5. Relax
No need to spend too much time on this one 😂. We all know how to do this one with perfection.
Taking a break, and kicking back, is not something someone has to repeat twice. However, it is highly conducive to your productivity, and it is much needed at times.
If you are putting in the respected work that is required by your game, then you deserve your time to kick-back and relax.
Spare time is something that is relevant. Depending on what you do, and how you control your time, you may have more or less spare time available.
When work is completed and you want to reward yourself, take your respected breaks.
Give your mind and body some time to decompress and re-charge to come back stronger.
6. Spend Time With Your Family
Life is all about balance, I believe. Although, I have heard arguments made otherwise, I stick to the mantra of— Life is all about balance.
When things are balanced in life, we are at our happiest and at our best.
It is when things are out of balance, where too much of our time is going in one direction, that we can experience hardship.
When you identify some spare time within your week, learn to dedicate and prioritize some of that time to your family.
Spend more time with the people who love you most, and the people you love most, within your life.
7. Work Towards Your Goals
In our home, we are very goal oriented. We achieve our goals by breaking down big ideas into little steps. We then put in the work each day, with dedication and consistency.
I believe that if you do not have personal goals set for yourself, you are not living.
You are a human being, therefore you have been blessed with incredible abilities. Those abilities, are your responsibility to develop and cultivate.
When you find yourself with spare time, focus on transmuting your energy into your spare time. Then work towards the goals that you have set for yourself.
If you haven’t set any goals for yourself lately, use this time now to go write some of your biggest goals on paper. Put them in a place where you see them each and every day.
Closing Thoughts 💭
The most important take-away, is that our time is our most valuable asset. Often times, spare time is over-looked.
If we can learn to become real masters of our spare time, then we can achieve great things.
Take time to set some clear and concise goals for yourself.
Break those goals down into smaller fragments.
Analyze your spare time and seek out those opportunities to consistently improve.
