When it comes to our physical health, we all want to know if we are making progress. Part of that progress, is knowing how to pick up on the cues and clues that lead you towards knowing you are on the right track.
When I take on a new fitness goal, I know that one important detail that is often overlooked is — what are you going to use to track your progress?
Tracking our progress is extremely important. It acts as a guide and provides insightful information that will tell you if you are moving in the right direction or not. How you go about tracking your progress will also keep you consistent over time.
Let’s go over a few signs that prove you are moving in the right direction throughout your weight loss journey.
Downward Trend In Weight Over Time
We all want to lose weight as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen that quickly. In fact, it can be a super slow process for most. This is why you must be willing to have the patience that this process requires.
The goal here, is to get your weight and body fat to go down over time. It doesn’t matter how much time this requires, as long as your weight is moving in the direction that you want it to move, you are winning!
If you are going to be monitoring yourself using a scale, I should warn you, the scale can be very misleading at times. Keeping your overall weigh-ins on a scale to one time per week, on the same day, and the same time will improve your accuracy.
Weighing yourself more that one time per week will drive you to insanity 🤪
Changes In Your Measurements
A great way to monitor and control your body fat is through consistently measuring key areas such as belly and waist line. By doing this, you can stay on top of any changes in these key areas and you can re-gain control if you happen to see if your numbers are increasing instead of decreasing.
Clothes Is Fitting More Comfortably
Fitting into an old dress that has been sitting in your closet for a long time is an excellent way of confirming that you are making great progress on your weight loss goals.
Once you start to notice that your clothes is fitting more comfortably, you will immediately feel the progress you have made. Your body is getting smaller now in all the right areas and your clothes fitting more comfortably is a sure sign you are making great progress.
Increase In Confidence
I always make it a point to emphasize that where the mind goes the body follows. If you push yourself hard enough, not only will you unlock new levels within your body, but your mind improves from this as well.
Feeling greater about yourself is an excellent sign that you are making progress. Achieving a weight loss goal is no easy task. By putting in the work and seeing the results, you may feel a strong rise in your self-confidence.
By creating a plan to improve yourself, and by sticking to it, you are proving to yourself that you value the decisions that are attached with your own health and overall improvement.
See The Difference In The Mirror
The mirror can be a difficult one for a lot of people. You may not want to want to get discouraged by having the hard truth slap you in the face, but this is a great tool.
The mirror is obviously a direct reflection of yourself. Using the mirror to monitor your results over time is a solid choice, but only if you can be strong enough to remind yourself that what you see is only temporary.
If you are going to be using the mirror, I wouldn’t do it too often, as the physical changes can be such a slow process that you won’t see the actual changes until you have been consistent over time.
Increased Strength In Your Workouts
A great sign that you are making great progress, is the increased strength in your workouts. If you are monitoring your nutrition properly, your workouts should feel solid as time goes by.
Over time, conditioning the body and staying active, your muscles should be in much better shape in order to support your new lifestyle. This is a great way to monitor your overall health and well-being.
More Consistency In Your Habits
Your body begins to change, and you start to gain momentum and motivation as time passes you. Once you start getting to the point where this is just part of your everyday routine, this is where you know you are making great progress.
Staying consistent, is one of the main keys to this process. It is not easy by any means, and it will challenge you to your core. However, by doing it more and more, you are going to see how it just becomes a positive habit you can’t do without.
Better Relationship With Food
The first 2 weeks are usually the hardest when it comes to an improved lifestyle shift like increasing your movement and cleaning up your food choices.
The body is so acclimated to eating a certain way, that when you go to eliminate certain foods, there will be some strong craving for those delicious foods. But, a key part of this journey is to improve your relationship with food.
Once you see that you are making way better choices with your food selections, and you understand your relationship with food, you will find that you are making great progress.
Better Biofeedback
Life is a long journey within itself. The more you improve our body and mind, the more your body will thank you. A great sign that you are making great progress, is the fact that your body is responding significantly better.
You may notice that your energy has improved, you are getting a much better quality of sleep, stronger hormonal responses, and your skin is reflecting the detoxification that is taking place.
Paying attention to this feedback is important and can be sure signs that you are making great progress on your weight loss journey.
Final Note
Measuring your progress is something that shouldn’t be overlooked when you are taking on any goal.
When it comes to weight loss, I cannot emphasize enough that you must be patient. Looking out for signs like these provided, can really help you along the way.
Measuring your progress is a great way to increase momentum and look for areas where improvements and adjustments are necessary.
No matter what, just keep going.
