Starting off the new week is like a new beginning. For some, it can be a downer because the weekend is ending and the workweek is approaching. But I like to look at it as a new beginning to a new week. Throughout the work week is where we put in most of our work. It is also where we make most of our decisions that move us forward in life. The best way to take advantage of the opportunities that will present themselves throughout the week is to properly set yourself up. Preparation.
The following are some tips that we use and execute on in our home each Sunday.
Take a moment to prioritize
The first thing that I suggest, is to jot down what you would like to accomplish throughout your work week. If you have never given this thought before, then I suggest you start. Because this is how we live with intention and with purpose. Waking up on Monday morning and just rushing through the motions is not good. We are leaving alot of missed opportunities on the table. By prioritizing what is important to us, it allows for us to have a clear perspective on what type of decisions really mean something to our souls. Having a clear understanding on what is important, then, and only then, can you move towards effective action.
Use Sunday as a Day to Prepare
On Sunday we like to use the day to prepare us for the week that is to come. How do we do that? Based off of our list of priorities, we use our Sunday to work towards those things that we value. This will help us throughout the week. Sunday is a great day to do tasks around the house that lead you to have a more productive week. Maybe you have a list that is pending of responsibilities that need to get done. Use your Sunday as a way to organize all of these tasks and put yourself in a position to win throughout the work week.
Clean Up & Organize Your Space
Sunday at our house is a day to clean and organize our home. Throughout the workweek we spend a lot of time in our home. With all of the changes that are taking place upon us with school, our kids are taking all of their education through virtual online classes. This goes under our list of priorities. We value our children and their development and so we understand the importance of their education and development. Now that they are doing their primary education at home, we need to make sure that as parents we can make the environment the best it can be in order for our children to keep up with their studies effectively.
A clean and organized space is vital to take full advantage of your time and productivity. Maybe you are reading this and don’t have children, regardless, a clean and organized home is always a great place to come home to each and everyday after a strong day at work. Having a clean and organized space always helps set the tone for a clear mind. The cleaner your space and the more organized you have things, the better you can perform.
Prep Your Morning Routine
I can’t stress how important a morning routine is. If you haven’t read the Own Your Morning I would recommend to take a moment and hit the link and go read that really quick. Having an effective morning routine is necessary to set you up for your day and to properly battle any obstacles that can show up throughout your day. We all have a morning routine set in place. Some are proactive about it, and some just wake up and go through the same motions.
Even though you are not aware and are just going through the motions, you still have created a morning routine for yourself. I like to have my coffee timer pre set, I like to have my workout clothes and shoes selected the night prior, and I like to have my clothes for work already selected. The reason that I do this is because I prefer to wake up at 4am and have everything already prepared. This way, all I have to do is just focus on going through my morning routine. The morning routine should be constructed in such a way that it makes you better. It makes you stronger, faster, alert, and more disciplined. Executing it each and every morning, should give you power. Prepare for it.
Get A Good Night Rest
A good night sleep is crucial to how you feel in the mornings. I have been waking up at 4am for a long time now. I can honestly say that I don’t think the brain and body ever gets used to waking up at un Godly hours. However, what I do know from experience, is that a good nights rest can make the process a whole lot easier. Maybe you are reading this and you wake up at 7am, the same still applies. Putting yourself to bed extra early on a Sunday can go a long way for you. If you are looking to progress and looking for ways to improve your work week, then prioritizing a great 8-9 hours of sleep is a great way to jump ahead of the game.
The goal should be to wake up Monday morning and use the morning to catapult your day. The goal is to wake up each morning feeling good and well rested in order to take on the challenges of each day. A strong start to a workweek creates momentum and that momentum, if you can capture it properly, can really help keep you in a zone. This zone that I am writing about is a place where your mind is operating clearly and the decisions that you are making are better geared towards keep you on track and making you a better version of yourself. Besides, what better way to wake up in the mornings and not have to stress about time. If you follow these tips, your morning should become just that; YOUR morning. Owning your morning is a therapeutic dose of power into your soul.
