They Say That A Word To The Wise Is Sufficient

The more experience that we gain throughout life, as we continue on our journey, the more it becomes apparent that we control our outcome. We have a sole responsibility to shape our lives. There is choice, there are decisions that we make a long the way that dictate where we go and who we become. This takes time to understand. To the eye and your internal dialogue, you can analyze it and agree, but to live it, now that is a whole different story.

Here Are 4 Key Reminders That You Control Your Destiny:
1. You Own Your Time
Sometimes we need to be reminded that we own our own time. At the end of the day we get to choose where we put our time. If your time is not being appropriately accounted for, then it gets thrown around loosely. You choose to go places and do things that are not directly parallel to your goals and ambitions. This is why it is healthy from time-to-time to audit the past 10 days of your schedule and look to see where you are putting your time.
Once you have identified where your time is going, ask yourself, —”With the time that I have spent these past 10 days, what progress have I seen?
Often times we don’t do this and then we wonder why we have been spinning wheels with no results to show for our time spent. See, time needs to be viewed as a transaction. Time is the most valuable asset you have, and you get to control 100 percent of it.
Make sure that for the exchange of your time, you are either helping someone else move forward, or you are helping yourself and those around you move forward. Our time on this planet is limited, that means the clock never stops running, but we eventually do. Learn to be more precise and intentional with your time.
2. The Power To Succeed Or Fail Is Yours Alone
In our home we teach our children to never give up and never quit on anything that means something special to them. I believe the people who are successful are the ones who simply never gave up. They never gave up on themselves and they never gave up on the idea, the dream.
Life is a sole responsibility, upon a certain age you begin to realize that you either need to do what it takes, in order to go to where you want to go, or you simply never get there. It’s a cold hard reality that you have the power invested in you to do what is required and when necessary.
If you choose to take something on, you must have the strength to keep going even when you may have lost hope yourself. It is during these key moments, where you reach low valleys, that you need to remind yourself that the power to succeed or fail is yours, and only yours. If you choose to quit, then you will never make it to the destination, which means you have failed. But if you can fork up the strength to keep pursuing your goal come hell or high water, then you give yourself a constant chance to succeed.

3. One Of The Great Powers We Have Is The Ability To Choose
Have you ever stopped to think just how good you have it? Life can be a complete disaster right now, at this very moment, but you still have the power to choose. You get to choose how you react to the good times and the difficult times.
When trying times arise in your life always remind yourself that nobody is coming to save you. It is you versus you. You have the ability to always choose how you want to react to given circumstances. The challenge is harnessing that power and truly embodying it.
One of the greatest powers we have is the ability to choose and I think that far too often, we lose sight of that. When life takes a hard turn for worse, you ALWAYS have two options:
- You take the easy road. You flee. You give up.
Or
2. You take the the road less traveled by—the hard road. The road that will demand the best version of yourself. Even if you are not that person yet, you will need to become that person in order to make it to the other side.
That is the power of choice. In the end we have a responsibility to steer our own ship. We are directly affected by our own decisions. Those decisions either propel you forward or kick you backwards, the choice is yours.
4. Successful People Take Responsibility For Themselves
This is a tough pill to swallow for a lot of people. I have been in situations firsthand where I need to check myself and take responsibility for my actions. It’s never easy. In fact, it can be so difficult that if you are not careful you begin to not take responsibility for yourself, simply because it is that much easier to do so.
If you are still reading this far, I am here to tell you that you will make mistakes in your life. You are not perfect, do not hold yourself to a perfectionism mindset because it will paralyze your growth. Accept that you make mistakes and use those mistakes as a way to help you get better moving forward.
We are all going to make mistakes, the wisdom lies in the foundation of accepting it and trying to learn as much as possible through your own journey and those around you, so you can avoid them as much as possible.
